Class One – EYFS

Class One have had an awesome start to the new year! Our topic was ‘Helping Heroes’ and we have been lucky enough to have experienced lots of amazing visitors to school who all help to keep us, our families and our community, safe. A huge thank you to all who have empowered us with valuable insights into potential future careers within our emergency services! We have learned so much about the roles of police officers, nurses, paramedics and the fire service. We even performed our dance routine dressed as firefighters, performing an emergency fitness drill and ending with the important stay safe message: “Get Out, Stay Out and Call 999”.

As part of our ‘people who help us’ work, we have been learning basic first aid and life-saving skills alongside ‘The Story of Tumbles and Grumbles’. Tumbles the Tiger is a paramedic, and he helps people if they are feeling poorly or have really hurt themselves. His friend Grumbles the Gorilla is a little bit mischievous and he gets himself into all sorts of bumps and scrapes!

Tumbles and Grumbles taught us the emergency phone number and how to ask for help. We learned about common dangers at home and school and how to keep ourselves safe. We know about our hearts and lungs, and how to apply a bandage to a wound. Tumbles also helped to teach us how to put a friend into the safe (recovery) position as well as the ‘Chest, Press, Repeat’ process, CPR. We have been practising our newly acquired first aid skills within our hospital role play area too. It has been great fun!

Class Three – Y3 and Y4

As we wrap up the autumn term, we are excited to share the wonderful experiences and achievements of Class 3.

It’s been a busy and enriching term, filled with learning, exploration, and fun! Our gymnastics sessions have been a highlight. The children have shown incredible progress in their flexibility, strength, and coordination. From mastering basic moves to performing complex routines, their enthusiasm and dedication have been truly inspiring.

In our English lessons, the children have been exploring the importance of poetry. They have enjoyed reading and analysing a powerful poem written by Maya Angelou, learning about different poetic devices and expressing their interpretations creatively. This has not only enhanced their appreciation for literature but also improved their critical thinking and writing skills.

In Maths, we have focused on multiplication and division. The children have worked hard to understand these fundamental concepts, using various strategies and tools to solve problems. Their confidence in handling numbers has grown significantly, and they are now able to tackle more complex calculations with ease.

This term, the children have been channelling their creativity through art projects inspired by the vibrant flora and fauna of tropical rainforests. Using a variety of materials, including fabric and natural elements, they have created stunning pieces that capture the beauty and diversity of these ecosystems. These projects have not only enhanced their artistic skills but also deepened their appreciation for nature and the importance of preserving our planet’s biodiversity.

We had the privilege of hosting a visit from an Anglo-Saxon church representative. The children were fascinated by the stories and artefacts shared, which brought their history lessons to life. It was a unique opportunity to connect with our past and understand the cultural heritage of our region.

We celebrated Number Day with a variety of fun and educational activities. The children engaged in math games, puzzles, and challenges that made learning numbers exciting. It was a fantastic way to promote numeracy skills in a playful environment.

As we move into the Spring term, we have several exciting events and activities planned. We are looking forward to our visit to Low Barns, where the children will explore nature and learn about the local wildlife. It’s a great opportunity for hands-on learning and environmental education. Class 3 will be competing in a tennis festival, where they will have the chance to showcase their skills and enjoy some friendly competition. The festival will include:

• Skill Drills: The children will participate in various drills to improve their tennis techniques, such as serving, volleying, and rallying.
• Mini Matches: There will be friendly matches where the children can put their skills to the test in a supportive environment.
• Team Challenges: The festival will feature team-based activities to promote teamwork and sportsmanship.

World Book Day is always a special event, and this year will be no different. The children will celebrate their love for reading with various activities, including dressing up as their favourite book characters and participating in storytelling sessions. Finally, we will be participating in the football league, giving the children an opportunity to play matches against other schools. It’s a great way to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and school spirit.

We are incredibly proud of all that Class 3 has achieved this term and look forward to more exciting adventures in the coming months. Thank you for your continued support.
